HEIC to JPG Converter — free and private

Got an iPhone photo that Windows, an upload form, or an older app refuses to open? Convert HEIC to JPG right here in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded — which matters, because camera-roll pictures are personal.

The decoder loads only after you choose a file. Conversion runs in a local worker; no photo is uploaded.

PixArmory exports the primary image only, bakes orientation into the pixels, and strips EXIF, GPS, and color-profile metadata. A Live Photo's separate MOV video is not included.

HEIC decoding uses heic-to 1.5.2 and libheif under LGPL-3.0. License and replacement instructions.

STEP BY STEP

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Add your HEIC files

Drag in up to 3 photos as a guest (10 with a free account). The converter loads on demand — you’ll see its real progress the first time.

  2. Pick JPG or PNG

JPG is the right answer for almost everyone. PNG is there if you specifically need a lossless copy and accept a much larger file.

  3. Set quality

The default of 90 keeps photos looking like the original. Lower it only if you also need a smaller file.

  4. Download each photo

Every converted photo appears the right way up, ready to share, upload, or open anywhere.

REAL-WORLD USES

When you need HEIC converted to JPG

Opening iPhone photos on Windows

AirDropped or emailed photos from an iPhone arrive as .heic files that older Windows versions and many apps can’t display. A JPG copy opens everywhere.

Upload forms that reject HEIC

Job applications, marketplaces, insurance claims — plenty of upload forms only accept JPG or PNG and simply refuse an iPhone’s native format.

Sharing without format surprises

Send photos to family, clients, or a group chat knowing everyone can open them, whatever device they use.

WHAT YOU GET

Why convert HEIC here

Truly private

Most HEIC converters upload your camera roll to their server. This one decodes photos on your own device — nothing is transmitted, so there’s nothing to trust us with.

Location data stripped

iPhone photos carry GPS coordinates of where they were taken. The converted JPG has that removed, safe to post publicly.

Photos come out upright

Sideways photos are a classic conversion bug. Here the rotation is baked into the pixels, so the JPG looks right in every app.

Handles the odd cases

Multi-image HEIC files convert their main photo with a clear note, fake .heic files are rejected safely, and Live Photo stills convert fine (the video part stays on your phone).

01 / FIELD NOTE

What is a HEIC file, and why does Apple use it?

HEIC is the format iPhones have used by default since 2017. It stores photos at about half the size of an equivalent JPG, which is why Apple likes it — but the rest of the world never fully caught up, so HEIC files regularly hit compatibility walls outside the Apple ecosystem.

Converting to JPG trades a bit of file size for universal compatibility. The photo itself looks the same; one thing to know is that newer iPhones capture extended brightness (HDR) that only Apple screens display fully — the converted JPG is a standard version that looks consistent everywhere. Keep the original HEIC if you want that extra data preserved.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

HEIC to JPG — common questions

Is this HEIC to JPG converter really free?

Yes — free, no watermark, no ads. Guests convert up to 3 photos at a time; a free account raises that to 10 per batch. Single photos never require an account.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The decoding happens in your browser using code loaded from our own site. We never receive the photo, its filename, or its location data — you can even watch your network tab to verify.

Why do converted photos sometimes appear sideways elsewhere?

HEIC files store rotation as a hidden note that some converters lose. This tool rotates the actual pixels during conversion, so the JPG displays upright everywhere, including apps that ignore rotation notes.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

A tiny amount, typically invisible — at the default quality of 90 the JPG looks like the original photo. Choose PNG output if you need a lossless copy, at the cost of a much bigger file.

How do I stop my iPhone creating HEIC in the first place?

On the iPhone: Settings → Camera → Formats → “Most Compatible” makes it shoot JPG. “High Efficiency” (HEIC) saves space, so many people keep it and just convert the occasional photo that needs to travel.

Can I convert HEIC to PNG instead?

Yes — the output selector on this same tool offers PNG. It’s the right choice for lossless editing pipelines, but for sharing and uploads, JPG is smaller and universally accepted.

AI, when the task calls for it

Converted, but the photo itself needs work?

If the picture is blurry, faded, or noisy, format conversion won’t fix that. The AI Photo Enhancer restores clarity and detail — conversion here stays free and local.
